BTO Renovation Timeline: What to Expect and How to Plan
Your BTO Renovation Timeline
Congratulations on your new BTO! The time between key collection and moving in can be stressful, but with proper planning, your renovation can go smoothly. Here's what a typical 8-week renovation looks like.
Week 1: Hacking & Demolition
This is the noisiest phase. Our team removes existing tiles, hacks walls (if relocating rooms or creating open-concept layouts), and removes old sanitary fittings. Note that HDB has strict renovation hours: weekdays 9am-6pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm. No work on Sundays and public holidays.
Weeks 2-3: Masonry, Plumbing & Electrical
New walls are built, floor screed is laid, plumbing pipes are rerouted, and electrical wiring is run. This is the foundation phase — everything else builds on top of this, so it's crucial to get it right.
Weeks 4-5: Waterproofing, Tiling & Ceiling
Waterproofing is applied in wet areas (bathrooms, kitchen), followed by tiling. False ceilings are installed, along with any cove lighting or concealed aircon piping.
Weeks 6-7: Carpentry Installation
This is where your home really takes shape. Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, TV consoles, shoe cabinets, and all custom furniture are installed. At Larry Contractors, we fabricate everything in our own factory, so quality and fit are guaranteed.
Week 8: Painting, Cleaning & Handover
Final painting, installation of doors and hardware, cleaning, and touch-ups. We do a walkthrough with you to ensure everything meets your expectations before handover.
Pro Tips for BTO Owners
Start planning 2-3 months before key collection. This gives you time to finalise designs, get quotations, and book your contractor. Popular periods (Nov-Feb) get booked up quickly.
Apply for your renovation permit early. HDB requires a renovation permit before work can begin. We handle this as part of our service, but it takes 1-2 weeks to process.
